About the Trail of Dreams

MAY 11th & 12th, 2019

In 1994 the Dewey County Sheriff’s Office began the TRAIL OF DREAMS. This ride, in its 25th year, is an annual wagon and horseback ride for children of Oklahoma suffering from chronic catastrophic illnesses. Each year we host the event in which we treat the children and their families to two fun days of horseback riding, horse drawn wagon rides, camping out under the stars and fireside entertainment.

We begin on Saturday morning and travel approximately twenty miles Saturday and Sunday through some of the most remote areas of Dewey County, most of which show no signs of civilization. Saturday night we have a campfire dinner, entertainment and camp out in tents under the beautiful night sky. At the end of our journey on Sunday afternoon the Dewey County Community hosts a “POT LUCK” lunch for everyone on the trail. Because of the relatively primitive territory, handicapped facilities are limited but every effort will be made to help families accommodate their situation. PLEASE CALL THE SHERIFF'S OFFICE ABOUT SPECIFIC NEEDS. The family is responsible for providing necessary care on the ride but a Physician and other medical personnel will be along to assist with emergencies. THERE IS NO CHARGE, all food and services are donated by the Sheriff’s staff, Dewey County communities and surrounding Counties. The deadline for registration is May 10th, 2019. For reservations, register online or contact Judy Junkins at the Dewey County Sheriff’s Office at 580-328-5558.
